Kirsten Snow, Founder

Kirsten Snow, Blue Stone Journeys’ founder, grew up on a small farm in Rhode Island. She was raised on the belief that if you take care of the land, the land will take care of you, and she knows that when people have a more meaningful connection to the land, they do more to take care of it. So while Nature Therapy is good for people, it is also good for the earth.

Kirsten is certified with the world’s first and leading guiding program, Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides (ANFTG). Her training spans from Costa Rica to Massachusetts, and she continues to guide internationally.  Kirsten studied directly with Amos Clifford, ANFTG Founder and leading voice for Forest Therapy in the United States.

She also has over 30 years of studying complementary medicine and is a life-long nature lover. Guiding internationally and understanding the cultural implications of Forest Therapy is an important part of Kirsten’s approach. In addition to her training overseas and practice in the States, she regularly guides across Northern and Southern Italy.

Reciprocity is woven into Kirsten’s work in a variety of ways, and is a core tenant of Blue Stone Journeys. Through Walk It Forward, Blue Stone Journeys contributes to those who might not otherwise afford Nature Therapy. She guides with local institutions pro-bono, mentors other guides, and teaches the guiding practice.

Kirsten is grateful to the land for many reasons. While meditation, yoga and complementary care were always a part of her life, when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, it was Nature Therapy that became integral to Kirsten’s feeling whole again. Now giving back means working with institutions where caring is the work, and burnout rates are high, such as medical centers, universities and assisted living communities.

There are many ways Kirsten finds balance in Nature.  She and her husband are part of a community farm on the South Shore of Massachusetts.  They tend to the wooded area they call “home”.  She finds joy cycling, snow-shoeing and kayaking. Wandering the beaches and in the woodlands is part of Kirsten’s Nature Therapy practice.
